Glossy Ibis saves the day

South easterlies again this week prompted me to take the day off and full of optimism I headed to the East coast with Mark, Andy and Mike, we started at Filey where a Glossy Ibis has been commuting between East Lea and the Dams over the past few days, not present when we arrived but it wasn’t long before it dropped in then spent the rest of the morning parading and posing for us, it flew back to East Lea around lunchtime so we took the cue to head round to the Country Park, we had a scan of the bay from the end of Carr Naze and had the usual array of Waders on the Brig and Sea Duck off the end of it, I found a Black Throated Diver but couldn’t get the others on it before it dived and was never seen again, as we headed back we came across a small flock of Snow Buntings, they were a bit flighty but we eventually got quite close to them. By mid afternoon it had become obvious there was going to be no fall of migrants but we thought we’d see if Flamborough had anything to offer, it didn’t, it was very quiet, a Stonechat down Old Fall hedge was the only thing of note, North easterlies forecast for the weekend, maybe they will produce something.
