Spurn Dipping

Initially on my own I was heading back to Brotton for second helpings of the Eastern Crowned Warbler when Mark, who was on call this weekend, rang to inform me a Blackpoll Warbler had been found at Easington and there was negative news on the ECW, having just reached Thirsk I spun round and headed back picking Paz up en route who had got in touch as I was by-passing York, when we got there it soon became apparent that the bird had gone missing, it had been very flighty by all accounts and was unfortunately lost to view after 30 mins or so and despite a good crowd searching the area it wasn’t refound. We had a potter around Spurn, highlights being a Black Brant with the Dark Bellied Brents at Kilnsea, a good selection of Waders and a few Little Egrets on the high tide roost and a couple of Stonechats and a Short Eared Owl in the Triangle. Mid-afternoon we headed for home calling in at North Cave Wetlands where four male and two female Red Crested Pochards had dropped onto Far Lake today.
